Electric Utility Partners with Libraries to Save You Money

Along with all the great books, magazines, and DVDs, you’ll now be able to check out a power monitoring system from your local public library in Illinois thanks to a program through the Ameren electric company. Ameren, an electric utility in Illinois and Missouri, has launched a great new program they’re calling WATT Solutions through their ActOnEnergy initiative. Ameren has provided a number of libraries throughout the state of Illinois with the P3 Kill A Watt EZ system. This is the same device that I used to measure electrical consumption in my post IT Goes Green, by the Numbers. This will allow households around the state to get accurate numbers on their electrical usage. Perhaps, you’ll find that an old appliance is really inefficient and you can do without it in trade-off for a lower electric bill each month. With the Kill A Watt EZ system, you can look at your last month’s electric bill and input the cost for electricity to have the device calculate how much a particular appliance is costing you along with the KWH consumption.

Read a press release from one Library system about this new opportunity. (Click the image for a PDF.)

Read Ameren’s press release. The next time you’re visiting your local library, check out one of the Kill A Watt systems and start saving money by identifying the electricity leeches in your house.
