NTFSDOS – See NTFS drives in DOS

NTFSDOS is a utility by my favorite company, Sysinternals. This tool allows you to interact with NTFS formatted hard drives in DOS. There are actually two tools that I’m referring to: NTFSDOS and NTFSDOS Professional.

After Sysinternals was bought by Microsoft, it seems both tools disappeared and are no longer officially available. I know most people are more interested in Windows 7 utilities, but there are still a handful of applications around that depend on DOS and these types of tools. NTFSDOS and a bootable DOS can allow you to run simple tasks with a small footprint, repair a corrupted Windows installation, and many more.

Just run the NTFSDOS executable or include it in your autoexec.bat file with:

lh NTFSDOS.exe

NTFSDOS will check your hard drives for NTFS partitions and assign them drive letters.

You can download NTFSDOS (read-only) or NTFSDOS Professional (read/write).
