Disable Firefox 3’s New “Awesome” Bar

If you find Firefox 3’s new Awesomebar (what they’re dubbing the URL bar) more annoying than awesome, you can disable the new feature where it searches your history and bookmarks to try and match what you’re typing.

To disable this, just type about:config in the url bar. You’ll get a warning if this is your first time going into the about:config. You’ll want to be careful, so just follow my instructions and everything should be fine.

Click the I’ll be careful, I promise! button and we’re ready to proceed.

A page will come up inside that tab with ‘Filter:’ and a text bar to narrow down the list. Type ‘urlbar’ in the filter bar.

Look for the value ‘browser.urlbar.maxRichResults’ and double-click on it to be able to change the value. By default, this value is at 12. Change it to 0 and hit Ok. Finally, close the tab and you’re now awesome-free.
