Installing a Scanner on Windows Server 2003

When installing a scanner on Windows Server 2003, it is necessary to start and make the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service ‘automatic’ as it is ‘disabled’ by default. Otherwise you will just get an error related to not finding any imaging devices.

Right-click ‘My Computer’, go to Manage.
Click the [+] next to ‘Services and Applications’.
Click ‘Services’.
Scroll down to ‘Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)’.
Right-click, go to ‘Properties’.
Change ‘Startup-type’ to ‘automatically’.
Either reboot the machine or click ‘Start’ to start the service.

Install the drivers for the scanner normally.
