Is Your Firefox Genuine? Phishing at its Phinest!
Do you have a genuine version of Firefox installed? Did it install a bunch of malware alongside your browser? Is Microsoft allowing this to sabotage your first impression of Firefox? The browser wars are getting ugly. Why isn’t Mozilla doing anything to stop this phishing attempt that is ruining their good name and adding more machines to the botnet?
Google Voice Officially Goes Mobile, Device-Agnostic
Early Tuesday morning, Google announced the launching of a revamped Google Voice mobile site. This web app allows Google to circumvent restrictive factors like Apple’s App Store. It also makes the app relatively device agnostic. Though it is only currently supported by the Palm Pre and iPhones with OS 3.0 or higher, the app would work for any phone supporting HTML 5 in its browser app.
This web app has most of the functionality of native app you would download and install on your phone except it doesn’t have access to your contacts, though you can easily store your contacts inside Google Contacts. Being web-based, this also means you won’t take up any space on your phone with the app’s installation footprint.
Google Reader Gets a Bit Better
Google Reader, a popular RSS Feed Reader, has gotten a bit better with the addition of a new feature that will allow you to create “feeds” even on a page that doesn’t have an RSS feed. This feature works alongside the Google crawlers, it compares the cached version of the page to the version it’s looking at currently as it crawls the site and then generates a feed based on any changes it finds and creates an entry in your Google Reader.
Get your CompTIA Certifications Now! It's Life or Dea… 3 Year Renewals!
CompTIA announced earlier this month that its certification programs would undergo a huge overhaul in order to maintain their accreditation from the International Organization for Standardization in a press release titled ‘CompTIA Announces Plan to Help IT Professionals Keep Skills Up-To-Date’. Instead of CompTIA’s certifications being good for life as they traditionally have, they are now set to expire in 3 years. As someone holding CompTIA’s A+ and Network+ certifications and studying for the Security+ certification test, this was very relevant to me.

Extracting Images from Microsoft Word Documents
Despite my attempts to educate here at 404TS, I still continue to receive screenshots and images inside of .doc files. Other times, you might have to revise a document or convert a Word document to a wiki or webpage. In any case where you need to extract the images from a Word document, hopefully the following three methods will help.
Here’s an example of an image saved in a Word document:
Method #1
The best way to obtain the image is to save the Word document as a web page. This method will give you the image in its original size and format and the thumbnail in jpg format. Go to the Office Button, Save As, and Other Formats.
Microsoft Research – A Maker of Internet Buzz
One of the things I find most fascinating about technology is old-school, military-industrial complex style R&D. Research and Development differs from even the coolest and most innovative products that tech companies come out with because their commercial products are expected to turn a profit, R&D products don’t have that expectation though they’re supposed to have potential in the long-term. R&D in the tech industry seems to take some of the best and brightest minds and sets them loose on their passions with all the creative energy they can muster. That’s why R&D is the thing to watch in my opinion and has the most interesting products. Microsoft Research is one of those organizations that is more than just a think-tank and comes out with cool new products all the time.
