Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Final Hits the Web!
Mozilla has released Firefox 3.5 as a final candidate to the web. Fortunately there isn’t a mad dash to download it as there was for Firefox 3 when they tried and succeeded at setting a world record for number of downloads. Firefox 3.5 comes in the form of a 7.7MB download.
Firefox 3.5 has a number of new features to it including compatibility with some new HTML5 tags, a Private Browsing Mode, better Javascript performance, and a lot more. There are also extension incompatibilities with the upgrade so if you’re migrating a profile to 3.5, your extensions might be disabled until they’re upgraded to 3.5. Check out a lot of the changes in Firefox 3.5 with the release notes. It seems like things are running faster, snappier, and smoother with the 3.5 upgrade, so it seems promising.
If you want to see how Firefox 3.5 stacks up to other browsers, you can take it for a spin and put it through Peacekeeper, the browser benchmark system mentioned previously in my article on benchmarking.
With the release of Firefox 3.5, they’ve also redone how the Add-ons catalog appears over at Mozilla.
Check out Firefox 3.5 yourself.

Know of a way to get rid of the "New Tab" button on the Tab toolbar? It’s useless to me and reminds me of IE.

The Remove New Tab Button Add-on did the trick.

Blame this guy: http://www.spreadfirefox.com/node/3115
I’m surprised there isn’t a way to remove it just in the about:config. At least, there’s not one that I could find.

I’m one of those people, but now I need one to get rid of it.
I don’t know for sure if it was available before, but there is a "New Tab" button he could have added to the toolbar if he were to customize it.

Yeah. That’s what made the link worth posting.
All the comments told the guy it was already available and just needed customized. Unfortunately, they seem to have listened to him.
I like to keep my add-ons to a minimum, but I also demand certain functionality from the browser, so those add-ons are permitted. I really dislike the way Firefox Add-ons update themselves. They’ll pause loading the browser to request to be updated, then you tell them to update and they’ll provide a confirmation at the end that you have to tell to ‘Continue’ until it finally loads the browser. It’d be fine to tell me if there’s an error, but if everything went smoothly, post the confirmation and continue doing what I told you.
I haven’t had any add-ons update in 3.5 to know whether or not it’s been resolved, but I’ve heard that they’re working on it. So far, here at work, I’ve only been told that the .NET add-on is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.

Firefox 3.6 is available. Not noticing any really differences. The one-click theme capability does not catch my eye.
